Designer Rugs Celebrates 40 Years

Designer Rugs, the Australian family-owned luxury rug house, celebrated its 40th anniversary last Thursday with an evening at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), quayside on Sydney Harbour. Founded by Eli and Nurit Tal and carried forward by their son Yosi Tal, the house has grown over four decades into one of Australia's most distinguished names in bespoke luxury rugs. Wet weather did not deter guests, who arrived in full force to mark four decades of artistry, collaboration and design.

Set against the harbour, the celebration brought together clients, designers, industry partners and friends of the brand. Guests were welcomed onto a custom 8-metre timeline carpet that traced the history of Designer Rugs year by year, from its beginnings as a family venture to its place in Australian interiors today.

The evening also showcased a curated selection of Designer Rugs charity rugs, reflecting the company's long commitment to giving back through design.

Speeches from founder and owner Yosi Tal, designer Greg Natale, Christine McDonald and Shaun Russell, as well as Yosi Tal's sons, gave the night its emotional core. Each speaker reflected on the people, partnerships and artistry behind the brand's 40-year story.

Greg Natale, whose collaborations with Designer Rugs are among the brand's most recognised collections, spoke about the company's lasting influence on Australian design.
