'RUG UP': Discovering the next generation of Designers
DISCOVERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DESIGN TALENT IN NSW.
Designer Rugs is excited to announce the winner of ‘RUG UP 2009' competition:
RUBY PRITCHARD with her design ‘OLD & FUNKY'.
RUG UP is the result of an industry-linked project for third-year College Of Fine Arts, UNSW (COFA) students majoring in textiles as part of the Bachelor of Design program and one of Australia's leading design companies, Designer Rugs.
The project is designed to develop the design vision and practice of the students whilst also giving them an insight into the world of commercial design.
The students' brief was to produce a range of six to ten contemporary rug designs for an organisation or business involved in environmentally or culturally sensitive work; an organisation responsible for a public space; or a medical or educational institution.
The designs had to establish a dialogue with the activities of the chosen client and create a particular atmosphere, or convey a message or concern for the future.
From the 60 design concepts submitted by students, five were selected for production by Designer Rugs, who have a long-established commitment to design excellence and the mentoring of student designers in Australia. Students included:
All finalists rugs were displayed at Government House as part of Sydney Design Week 09.
The winner was announced at an award evening at Designer Rugs' Edgecliff showroom on Thursday 6th August, 2009 with special guest speaker Stephen Ormandy from Dinosaur Design.
The five ‘RUG UP' finalists are on display at Designer Rugs' showroom, 100 New South Head Rd, Edgecliff from Thursday 6th August and are available for purchase and re order.
